Beach Hazards Statement – For the Target Areas of Los Angeles County Coast, Catalina Island and Ventura County Coast -Thursday, July 18, 2013, 9:30 am – Sunday, 7-21-13, 12:00 pm There will be a high potential for rip currents, dangerous swimming conditions and high swells along exposed south facing shores through the weekend along with breakers ranging from 3-7 feet over the combined target areas. A beach hazards statement is issued when threats to beach and surf zone safety are expected or occurring. Caution should be used when in or near the water. Stay near occupied lifeguard towers and never swim alone. If caught in a rip current, swim parallel to the shore.
