NIGHT THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY AFTERNOON ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST
CALIFORNIA…

A VIGOROUS UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO MOVE
SOUTHEAST AND QUICKLY THROUGH CENTRAL CALIFORNIA THURSDAY MORNING…
INTO SOUTHEASTERN CALIFORNIA BY THURSDAY EVENING…THEN INTO
NORTHWESTERN MEXICO BY EARLY FRIDAY. THIS SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO
REMAIN IN THIS AREA FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.

STRONG NORTHERLY WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER PORTIONS OF
VENTURA AND LOS ANGELES COUNTIES THURSDAY NIGHT AND PERSIST THROUGH
MUCH OF THE DAY ON FRIDAY. WINDS WILL INCREASE AGAIN FRIDAY NIGHT

AND TURN MORE NORTHEASTERLY AND PERSIST THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.
THE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE AREAS FOR THE STRONG WINDS WILL BE ACROSS THE
MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS…ESPECIALLY BELOW AND THROUGH THE PASSES AND
CANYONS…AND THE COASTAL AREAS INCLUDING THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY
COAST FROM MALIBU TO THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS.


THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGING WIND GUSTS OF 60 MPH OR MORE
THROUGH FAVORED MOUNTAIN PASSES AND BELOW PASSES AND CANYONS OF THE
SANTA CLARITA VALLEY WITH THIS EVENT.
 A HIGH WIND WATCH IS IN EFFECT
FOR THE MOUNTAINS OF VENTURA AND LOS ANGELES COUNTIES AND THE SANTA
CLARITA VALLEY FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON.
IN ADDITION…
STRONG GUSTS OF 40 MPH OR MORE WILL BE POSSIBLE FOR
THE WIND FAVORED AREAS OF THE SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS…LOWER VALLEYS
AND COASTAL LOCATIONS…WHERE WIND ADVISORIES WILL LIKELY BE NEEDED.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE STRONG WINDS INCLUDE DOWNED TREES AND
POWER LINES IN THE MOUNTAINS AND SANTA CLARITA VALLEY…AND STRONG
CROSS WINDS FOR MOTORISTS WHICH WOULD AFFECT HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.
THIS STRONG OFFSHORE WIND EVENT WILL ALSO BRING SUFFICIENTLY LOW
HUMIDITIES TO CREATE INCREASED FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS ACROSS THE
REGION.
