Weather Advisory 06-24-13

Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service (NWS) NO ACTION REQUIRED EXTENDED PERIOD OF VERY HOT NEAR RECORD TEMPERATURES LATE THIS WEEK AND WELL INTO NEXT WEEK… A STRONG RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE CURRENTLY OVER TEXAS…WILL STRENGTHEN INTO THE STRONGEST RIDGE OF THE YEAR AND SLIDE INTO THE SOUTHWEST WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. BY FRIDAY…HIGH TEMPERATURES EXCEEDING 100 DEGREES ARE LIKELY OVER THE COASTAL VALLEYS AND LOWER MOUNTAINS…WITH NEAR RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES APPROACHING OR EXCEEDING 110 DEGREES OVER THE HOTTEST INTERIOR VALLEYS INCLUDING THE ANTELOPE VALLEY….WHICH MEANS THAT THESE HOT TEMPERATURES WOULD CHANGE VERY LITTLE THROUGH THIS WEEKEND AND WELL INTO NEXT WEEK…POSSIBLY EXTENDING INTO THE FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY. THE IMMEDIATE COASTAL AREAS WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT TO FORECAST AS A STRONG BUT SHALLOW MARINE LAYER WILL LIKELY BE AROUND WITH FOG AND VISIBILITIES CONCERNS. THERE IS A CHANCE HOWEVER THAT BREEZY NORTHERLY FLOW OVER THE WEEKEND WILL DISRUPT THE MARINE LAYER….WHICH WOULD REALLY WARM UP THE COASTAL AREAS. THIS EXTENDED PERIOD OF HOT CONDITIONS WILL RESULT IN AN INCREASED RISK OF HEAT RELATED ILLNESS. TAKE THE NEEDED PRECAUTIONS NOW IN ANTICIPATION OF THIS HEAT EVENT. IN ADDITION…WITH VERY DRY VEGETATION…FIRE DANGER WILL ALSO BE ON THE RISE. BE EXTRA CAUTIOUS WITH OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES THAT MAY RESULT IN FIRE IGNITIONS.
