The 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, a series of catastrophic blazes that erupted in early January, caused significant damage and loss of life across the region. The fires, particularly the Palisades and Eaton fires, burned over 57,000 acres, destroyed thousands of structures, and resulted in at least 29 deaths. These fires were largely attributed to a combination of factors, including strong Santa Ana winds and dry vegetation.

In emergency management, Long-Term Recovery is the phase that focuses on helping a community fully rebuild and stabilize after the immediate disaster response is over. While early recovery might restore basic services and temporary housing, long-term recovery is about the bigger picture—repairing or replacing homes and infrastructure, restoring the local economy, addressing ongoing health and mental health needs, and reducing future risk (often through mitigation efforts). It can take months or years and typically involves coordination among government agencies, nonprofits, businesses, and community groups to ensure the community comes back stronger and more resilient than before.
A number of our member organizations are providing workshops, clinics, resource fairs, and other events supporting wildfire recovery. To see what events have been shared with us, visit our Events Calendar page.
